The Marmots were Marching

checking out the balloons (that Di probably let go)

She IS my kid...high fives all around EXCEPT to that scary guy in costume!

I love that bouncing ponytail!

James and Millie with their first place ribbons.  HOW CUTE ARE THEY!?
Another fun year of Marmot March with the Wilsons!  The kids had a blast.  Mil ran almost the entire mile or so.  Charlie chilled in the stroller with Trevor, Murph ran up ahead with a friend from preschool, and Georgia and Maddie took off way up ahead with the big kids.  Di was ahead of me trying to keep up with Murphy (or at least not lose sight of him :).

Could these pictures be any cuter?!

Dear Trevor,

Consider this your two year warning.  Two years from now we will celebrate our ten year anniversary.  How lovely it would be to slip this bad boy on my finger.  Isn't it gorgeous!?  I do believe I deserve it.
Love, Kelly

As of last week, she is in motion...

...and my party is over. I can't take a shower anymore without her all up in my business. Gone are the days of putting a pile of toys in front of her for entertainment. She is mostly likely standing holding on to the wall when I'm finished showering, or standing up holding on to the toilet. Nasty. That is why I pay my children well as "babysitters."

Water babies

I love her expressions here...

Apparently the eye patch is an integral part of We Will Rock You...

I love Fridays

Such buddies.  Murphy "babysat" so I could bring laundry upstairs.  When I came downstairs again he said "I dumped out all of her toys so she could play.  Then she was standing up and I put her back down on her bum."

I'm obsessed with this boy.

I take the day off of working out on Fridays.  That means taking Georgia and Murphy to school, coming back home to clean up, hang out, and Millie gets to watch some shows.  And after we pick up Murphy and have lunch, Charlie takes a nap, and Millie and Murphy hang out and watch some shows and play.  No pressure.  Just hanging out.  Kids being kids.

I'm sitting on my bed next to Charlie sleeping, with three baskets of laundry ready for me to put away, a load in the wash and a load in the dryer, dishes to unload, and an upstairs to vacuum.  However, it's rainy/showy out, chilly, and I have absolutely no motivation to do a thing.  I suppose I will let myself sit here and do  nothing but catch up on DVRed shows.

Georgia has saved up her allowance and birthday money for quite some time.  She has had her little red wallet with a colorful peace sign on it in the entry table drawer slowly collecting dollars for at least a year.  In fact, we forgot all about her wallet (thus making it difficult to actually spend those dollars).

Georgia decided she wanted to add Josefina to her American Girl collection.  She took a birthday trip to the American Girl store in CA with Nani, and met up with Molly and Mimi, and came home with Kaya.  She received her Molly doll for Christmas. After much deliberation (and scouring the pages of the catalog), Georgia decided Josefina was pretty cool.

For several nights, we would talk about "jobs" she could do to earn money.  Putting away her and Charlie's laundry for the week, for example, earns her $3.  "Babysitting" Charlie while I take a shower banks her another buck.  Those little things seem trivial, but they make my life a whole lot easier.  Win win.

Georgia and I calculated how much money she needed to reach her goal.  Every day we would do the math; closer and closer she got.  Then one day, last week, and after finding that cute little wallet, we figured out she had just enough money to buy her girl!  So, we whipped out the computer and searched the website to find Josefina.  Georgia thought her goat was pretty neat (and proceeded to tell me the story of it that she read in the Josefina book we had checked out from the library).  I told her that for her birthday I will buy the goat.

When we got home from the club this afternoon, I noticed a brown box on the front porch, and I knew just what it was.  I couldn't wait for Georgia to get home from school.   I just couldn't wait to see her excitement!

And there was certainly some excitement when she walked through the door!  She didn't even waste time taking off her backpack.  She tore into that box so quickly, picked Josefina up, introduced her to Kaya and Molly (BLESS her heart), and continued upstairs with her girls to play.

I've never seen this girl more happy.  The thing I like most of all is I know she is proud of herself.  She earned the doll.  It is hers and she bought it herself.  With her very own money. I love it!  Good lesson learned!

And it keeps getting better

Eight years ago today not only did my name change, but my world.  I walked down the aisle with the most amazing person.  Well, I walked down the aisle with my dad (an amazing person) to lock arms with the most amazing person.

Thinking of the classic vows, "in good times and bad." makes me appreciate Trevor more than words can express.  The obvious "bad" times have been few, but whoppers.  Doosies.  Out of left field kicks to the gut.  We made it through the worst; things I wish upon nobody.  We came out the other side stronger, more confident, more appreciative, and more in love.  Being faced with trying times opened my eyes to the realization that life is short.  And very unpredictable.  Call me naive, but I never thought of the possibility of something going wrong in life.  Something outside the realm of my plan happening.  Well, my friend, shit happens.  Big time.  Worlds are turned upside down.  And around and around again.  It's how we land when we stop spinning that matters.  It's hard to believe a year and a half ago I was faced with something so scary as a brain tumor.  A tumor  on my brain.  Unreal to even iterate now.  (Hey, at least it is a good ice breaker?!  Geez, if only they found it before college.  Imagine that college application essay!)  Anyways, when the madness subsided, and life went on as it was, Trevor and I landed in an extremely good place.

Trevor and I, for as long as I can remember, have said "everything always works out for us."  And it does.  Always.

I wish to everyone the happiness that Trevor, our kids and I have.

If I was given a buck every time I  hear "wow, you have your hands full" with the four kids, I'd be, well, at least buying groceries for the week.  In truth, when things are working, they work.  There is really nothing difficult about my life.  Yes, it is hard to be two places at once, difficult to always save money at the grocery store, and time consuming to schedule activities for everyone.  It is frustrating when dealing with a highly emotional, extremely stubborn child.  It makes me nervous at times to think that Trevor and I are largely lead players in the roles of the lives of four individuals.  What we do on a daily basis matters a great deal.  We are setting the stage for the impressionable lives of precious children.  That makes me nervous at times: life lessons.  While there isn't a right or wrong, I hope we are doing what is best.  In most cases I think we are.  The biting-your-kid-back-for-biting-another-kid idea: not a parent of the year award day.  The breakfast conversation about how the little things you do can make a big difference to someone*: outstanding.  All things considered, and aside from the sometimes stressful "hurry up we're late" mornings, it all works.  We're all happy.  The kids are loved by all.  Cookie cutter kids they are not.  We work as a team.  "A well-oiled machine" I was told the other day.

* We have been telling the kids that the little things make a big difference.  That giving Grandma Alice a hug when you see her makes her day.  Or when Murphy holds the door for the ladies at the Spokane Club, it makes them smile.  A few months ago while dropping Murphy off at school, I saw him run up to his friend and say hi and give him a high-five.  Murphy's friend was elated; he was so happy to have that greeting.  At dinner that night, I mentioned to Murphy how nice that was and how it probably made his friend's day.  Fast forward a few weeks, at drop off time, Millie runs up to this friend and gives him a high five and says hello.  I felt like my job that day was accomplished.

I couldn't ask for a better co-captain in the journey that is life.  We work together in every aspect: the kids, the house, life plans, daily plans.  It is so much fun to live this life.  We have been thrown curve balls the past few years.  We have dealt with tumultuous situations and come out better people, parents, children, siblings, and friends.  It all keeps getting better.  At this rate, 8 more years from now, we will be out of control strong together.  And 80 after that...watch out.  We will be that cute couple holding hands, side by side on our Rascals.

This is a test...

...and I have no choice but to pass.  It is a daily struggle with this child.  I have to continually try different tactics with Millie.  Reinforce the good behavior and completely ignoring the screaming and falling down and freaking out...that's what I've been going with.  Attempting to put the madness on extinction.  I like to tell myself this is a test, and the years of behavior classes and experience are there for my reference.

Such a sad little girl.
A meltdown over the climbing wall.
Tomorrow is a new day.  I will pass the test and come out stronger and more positive.  This sweet, sweet girl is amazing.  She is so strong willed, and that will serve her well over her lifetime.  Right?  That's what I have to tell myself.  She has been this way from day one.  Nothing is going to change, so we will embrace the sass.

Deep breath.......

Beautiful spring day FINALLY!

It's supposed to be rainy and cold all week.  Oh well.  We took advantage of today!
Millie "got" the whole bike riding thing!

Charlie giel

Never too big...

That front tooth is hanging by a thread now!!

Making Beezie proud with #10

Murphy had his first Tball game this weekend.  It was quite possibly one of the cutest things I've ever seen.  When he wasn't doing headstands in the outfield, he was using the bat as a pogo stick and hopping up to bat.  Or jumping on second base.  Or sitting down at third base.  Pretty hilarious.  I love it.  Happy as can be.  What a character.

What a great day

Millie got to spend the day at school with Murphy. Such a big kid. This was the third time she was given this opportunity. Mrs. Kelly said Millie is better behaved than so many of the five year olds. I love it because she is such a little shit at home lately.

With 3/4 at school, I went to the dermatologist where I had a few precancerous spots frozen off and one biopsied. Fingers crossed it comes back okay.

Charlie and I went to pick up M and M from school and came away with just Millie. Murphy went his other family. Our friends Lisa and Rich have an equally (or more) Lego-obsessed son, Andrew. He and Murphy play at least three days a week. Good fun. Anyways, while Lisa,Rich and i were talking, Murphy and Andrew got into their car and buckled in. No point in getting him out. He didn't come home until dinner time.

Millie, Charlie and I stopped by Georgia's school to drop something at the office and realized it was lunch time. Georgia has asked me a few times in the past few weeks to join her for lunch. I felt so badly for not having done it. I used the excuse of being busy or tied down with the other three kids. in actuality, it was so easy! Georgia is the sweetest, kindest kid. We met her in her classroom and she instantly held Millie's hand and took her under her wing. She lifted her up for a drink from the water fountain when Millie said she was thirsty. In the lunch room, Georgia asked the lady for a chocolate milk for her little sister. Millie sat between Georgia and her friend, and across from two others. Georgia shared her lunch with Millie. Next stop: recess. My initial though was, "Oh I want to go home. I'm hungry, Charlie is going to get hungry soon, I have an entire house to clean..." I went with it though. And boy am I glad I did. Georgia and her friends took care of Millie, playing on all of the equipment, running on the field, and talking story. Melted my heart. When the second bell rang, I told Georgia we were heading out (the side gate). She said "Wait! I want you to meet my friend that I saw at the Spokane Club at swimming." Well, I walk over and met the nicest woman, the recess duty lady. Bless Georgia's heart. Her friend. I love my daughter.

Amazingly enough, Charlie and Millie fell asleep at the same time and I rapidly cleaned and got stuff accomplished.

After Millie (on her bike), Charlie (in the backpack), Harley and I picked up Georgia from Sign Language after school, we headed to the store for some ingredients for cake pops and dinner...not necessarily in that order.

Murphy got home, Trevor and Mason came home, we ate our fave Thai peanut noodles with broccoli and bell peppers, made the cake (the first step in making the cake pops), and the kids all watched a movie while Trevor hit the sack and I got to catch up on my DVRed shows as I folded laundry.

Ahhh and it's the weekend. Fun days ahead. Easter at the club, Murphy's first TBall game, and checking things off the ever-growing to do list. Looking forward to it all!

Spring Break

*Warning: lots of cute pictures ahead!*
Suitcases are halfway unpacked.  Well, the are unpacked (sitting empty, ready to go to their homes in the basement until our next journey) and the clothes are in piles ready to go to their homes.  Tomorrow I will catch up with all of that.  I went to Costco today, so our fridge no longer looks like it did the first day we got it.  I vacuumed downstairs, mopped the kitchen, and put away my swimsuits.  Again, tomorrow, I will put the warm weather clothes in their temporary home where they will hopefully reside only a short time until I can wear them again.
A face without freckles is like a sky without stars...

Cool guy.

Poor Nan.  She had a rough go at the museum.

This week in Hawaii was great.  I needed the sun.  Well, I needed the shade and the warm weather.  I needed the daily walks around Diamond Head with my mom.  I needed the break from daily life.  However, daily life does still consist of big time sassiness.
Scary Menehuni!

Poor Nani was almost eaten!

I love this picture.  It's so telling.  Charlie looking at her mama smiling, Georgia all smiles, Murphy being silly and Millie uncooperative.

Another run-in with the dinosaur.

However, I am afraid I am finding it difficult to get into the routine again.  It has only been one day back home, but I can't get motivated to do it all just yet.  I'm sure I'll find that motivation quickly when my alarm clock Charlie wakes up bright and early tomorrow, and I have to get her, Georgia, Murph, Millie and myself dressed and fed and ready to go for the day.  And when I have to take Georgia then Murphy to school and go to Zumba then Millie's swim lesson.  And when I have to pick up Murphy, feed everyone lunch, do all of my chores, plan dinner, pick up Georgia, head to the club for Murphy's swimming and Georgia's swim team.  And then shower everyone and eat dinner...oh my gosh I'm tired already.

Surprised by the dinosaurs.
Silly swimmer
Back to Hawaii.  We did it all.  The Waikiki Aquarium, Bishop Museum (cool dinosaur exhibit!), Trevor took the kids to the zoo, Ala Moana, Outrigger daily and the pool.  The kids loved the pool.  Murphy learned to dive, and Millie was a total fish.  We couldn't get her out of the pool.  She kept saying "I can swim by myself" and she would take off.  Kind of scary.  We WILL keep up those lessons!  We went nonstop.  Absent a few Millie meltdowns at the condo, the kids were amazing.  Such good, fun, happy travelers. They are just the best.  Georgia just loves life.  Finds the positive in everything.  She is little Mary Sunshine. Murphy is just classic.  What a sense of humor.  Millie is amazing.  You never know what personality you'll get.  Spicy.  And sweet, sweet Charlie.  Delicious.

Murph got new Legos from the Lego store.  And a new shirt from the Aquarium.  A little thrilled.

He learned to dive!

Mil has turned in to a fish!

Best swim teacher!
