Silver lining

There are not many things in life I hate. Sure, going to the bathroom only to realize there is no toilet paper is one. Or when I am running with Mason and he poops twice when I have only one bag... The chart-topper, however, is sick kids. I have a real issue when my baby is up tossing and turning all night for five days with a fever and a horrible cough. I hate that she gags on Motrin then throws up all over my sheets and I have to do another load of laundry (OK, Trevor has to do another load of laundry) on top of the already existing heap at the bottom of the laundry chute. I hate that she won't nurse because she can't breathe and eat at the same time. I hate that she sees me coming with a tissue and crawls away.

The past week has been a true coffee-fest. We have had to go about our normally scheduled programing with a lethargic RSV-infected baby in tow.

It's not until I think of the past few days that I realize how nice things really are. Trevor has taken Millie from 2:00am til he has to get ready for work every single night/morning. Because of sheer exhaustion, when I literally can't make my body pick her up to rock her to sleep, he steps in and they have a slumber party downstairs on the couch.

Georgia and Murphy play so well together. They are best of friends. When I am pulled away from them to deal with wiping up a Motrin throw-up, which leads to me mopping the floors of course, they continue on with their play time. From playing dinosaurs to mama and baby to having a picnic on the living room floor, the two have the best play dates. There are moments, yes, when Murphy has a nice red forehead from headbutting Georgia, but those are becoming more and more spaced out.

I have found the most wonderful group of friends. Friends who stepped in without me even considering asking to step in. When we first moved here I remember (see one of my first posts!) feeling the need to find a group of friends. Not acquaintances. Friends. I truly have, and it makes me very happy! Thankful.

While I am now looking at Millie getting in to trouble again, pulling out every diaper from the bin and moving on to the wipes, I know she is feeling better. It has been a long week, yes, and at times I couldn't sit down in the middle of the day out of fear that I would put my head down and fall asleep. We're in the clear, however, until the next kid gets sick.

While there may not be an upside to forgetting to restock the toilet paper roll, I have found one here. I have an amazing husband who puts 100% effort in at work only to come home and put in another 110%. My kids are the greatest. Oh - yes - there is an upside to the toilet paper ordeal. I get to put my kids' listening skills to the test. "Georgia and Murph - how fast can you run down to the basement and get a roll of toilet paper and bring it up to me?" :0)

And more kid conversations

Listening to Sting's Roxanne on my blog...Murphy says, "Mommy, who is Roxanne?"

Georgia, Murphy, Millie and I were watching Ratatouille. Georgia and I loved how the rats sounded to humans like they were squeaking, but really they were talking to each other in voices. Georgia's wheels were spinning for a few minutes and asked, "why does it sound like squeaks to us, but they are really talking?" I said - well, do you think rats really talk? She says "no, but they do communicate." Who says that? Only GA.

The kids love infomercials. Georgia is always trying to sell me things, like the Snuggie (http://www.oxiclean.com/default2.asp) or the garden you simply roll out and water. I overheard Murphy say "OxiClean?" and a few seconds later "uhh. Pet stains." I'm waiting for them to throw that one in the cart on the next trip to the store.

Trevor is out of town for the week, so all four of us were in my bed watching "It's Me or the Dog" on Animal Planet at 9:15 last night. Murphy pipes up, "What's her name?" to which Georgia replied "Victoria Stilwell." Murphy says with a smirk, "Oh, I thought she was from Africa."

Conversations with Murphy

Murphy: "When I grow up I want to be a teacher."
Kelly: "What are you going to teach?"
Murphy: "Kids how to run!"
Kelly: "You're going to be a great teacher."
Murphy: "Thanks. When you grow up what do you want to be?"
Kelly: "Um...a nurse."
Murphy: "That's cool!"

Yesterday, driving in the car:
Murphy: "Um...why is the sky blue?"
Kelly: "I think it's a reflection or something."
Trevor: "Because it's God's favorite color."
Kelly: "Let me call Beezie and ask her to Google it."

Murphy to Mason, as Mason is whining at a dog in the front yard:
"Stop it Mason...we are going to take you to doggy day care."

THAT person

I think it's safe to say I am on top of things - I have a pretty good memory, am on time and don't miss appointments or double-book events. I'm pretty organized - I know where things are and like a bit of structure to my day. Apparently I am turning in to THAT person, though. The one who leaves the coffee cup on the roof of the car (of which I am not guilty...yet).

I was getting the kids ready to head out the door the other day only to realize I had Murphy's shoes on Millie. We're talking a two and a half year old's sneakers on a six month old.

I have to keep three packs of gum on my person just because I forget to brush my teeth on so many occasions before taking Georgia to school.

Millie has some crazy comb-over hair going on. It requires a clip, bow, or headband on a daily basis so as to let her see clearly, not through strands of hair. I put her in the tubbies one morning and stuck her clippy in my bangs out of convenience. Well, I REALLY must not look in the mirror (sorry public) because as I was driving home from errands I noticed a little something while looking in my rear view mirror. Sorry to my children for being such an embarrassment!

I'm in trouble now

I pulled out Millie's big toy basket so I could read some smut from the Today section of the paper. Notice: toy basket left behind. The file drawer is way more fun. She pulls herself up on everything now. I will be duct taping the drawer shut!

More Annie plus laughs and some business

I spend probably 23 hours a day in contact with or within plain sight of Millie. The first thing she says? Guess.

Update: She says mama like it's her job now!

Millie Milestone

She has a tooth! One little (top of a) chicklet. Maybe that's why she chooses to nurse all night long. It can't feel good. She is on Amoxicilin for an ear infection (I'm on antibiotics for one too!) and Motrin, so she's been a pretty happy camper. It's good news for my windows and trim! When she's sick, she sleeps!

"How would it be if I sat in the ocean?" Song by Georgia

How would it be if I sat in the ocean?
How would it be if I hadn't have seen?
It would be like never before.
I would sit on a rock at the shore.
I would be as happy as could be.
I would be happier than me.
